Erica Weiner Black Grosgrain Rosette Shoe Clips
Designer: Erica Weiner Jewelry
These black rosettes are made from grosgrain ribbons that have been pleated and sewn into a fluted flower shape. Each measures about 2” In diameter and is backed with a thick cardboard circle and two toothed, hinged metal clips. (Show in white, but available in black)
Shoe clips were first manufactured in the ornament-obsessed Victorian era, when instead of buying multiple pairs of shoes, women dressed up their plain footwear with an endless variety of detachable bows, buckles, and jewels. Flappers played croquet in rhinestone pairs, fast-talking female reporters clipped them onto their oxfords and Audrey Hepburn used all kinds to embellish her black ballet flats. These were probably manufactured in the 50s or 60s. Each pair is carefully attached to a card, which was inspired by Edwardian-era button packaging.
